UNESCO Geo-Nature Park

Short facts

  • Lorsch

The UNESCO Geo-Nature Park Bergstrasse-Odenwald combines a particularly charming landscape.

It extends over an area of 3,500 square kilometres between the UNESCO World Heritage Site Messel Pit in the north, the Rhine Valley in the west, the Odenwald Forest to the Bauland in the east, and the Neckar Valley in the south.

Hiking through the Felsenmeer with a Geopark ranger, learning interesting facts about Heidelberg's city forest from a forester, or tracking down animals and plants in the local forest with a Geopark on-site guide - the city of Heidelberg's "Naturally Heidelberg" events program makes it all possible. The Office for Environmental Protection, Trade Inspection, and Energy has been putting together a varied program of events every year since 2006 in close cooperation with the Bergstrasse-Odenwald Geo-Nature Park and the Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park.

Guided tours & excursions

Guided tours, excursions, and hands-on activities for children, young people, and adults attract visitors to the city forest and nature around Heidelberg. In addition to the open offers, the program also includes numerous guided tours and forest educational offers specially designed for school classes and kindergarten groups. Some of the events also take place as vacation programs during school vacations. Extra training courses are on offer for teachers. Individual event dates can also be arranged with the on-site guides and rangers for children's birthday parties or groups.
